Nocturnal Animals
This week in science we have been studying nocturnal animals.  Nocturnal animals are animals that sleep at night and are awake during the day.  We love learning about these animals!!!

(We have owls flying in our room!!)

We compared bats and birds using a double bubble map.

She is so trustworthy.  We can always count on her to have her homework, be kind to a friend, and help others.  What a great example of TRUSTWORTHINESS!!!

Raven Cookies, Earth Day, Ladybug Release, Cabbage Tasting

Raven Cookies
This week we studied the letter Rr, it's sound, how to write it and words that begin with Rr.  For our cooking activity, we make raven cookies.  We researched ravens, what they eat, and where you can find them.  Then we made cookies that look like ravens.  It was fun and yummy!!

Earth Day
Tuesday was Earth Day.  We discuss recycling, reducing, and reusing.  We wrote about what we can do to help the Earth. We practice "reducing" in our classroom and school by using less water and paper towels and using both sides of our papers.  We also practice reusing by finding scraps of paper, bags, plates, and "trash" and used our creativity to re-use the trash to make something new.

Ladybug Release
Last week we receive a "bubble" full of ladybugs.  We spent several days observing them and writing about them.  We also learned that they will not survive in their little bubble for very long, and in order for them to live longer we needed to release them.  The kids decided that we needed to release them in our school habitat so that they can eat the bugs in our garden and our vegetables will grow bigger.  The kids had a great time at our ladybug release!

Cabbage Eating
In October we planted cabbage in our school's habitat.  It was finally ready to be harvested.  After a though washing and a little dip in ranch dressing, most of the kids liked it!  Look how tall the plants got with all the rain we have had this month!!

Pride Rally
Today we had Pride Rally.  We watched the 4th graders perform and the Dance Club perform. Mrs. Brown  (PE) got a pie thrown in her face by the student that collected the most money for Jump Rope for Heart.  The Running Club got their awards for running their 5K.  Their was LOTS of celebrating going on at Florence Hill yesterday!!

Big Underwear Day, Underwater Cooking, Star of the Week, Pride Rally,

This we a SUPER fast, fun filled week! Since we missed Monday due to the weather, we had so much fun in a really quick amount of time!  Thank you to all the parents that came to Open House on Thursday night.  We spent all week working on getting our classroom ready and preparing for your visit.  On Friday, they were so proud that their parents got to see where they spending their days and where they do their amazing work!  Thank you for continually supporting our education!  Our parents ROCK!!

Star of the Week
Our Star of the Week is a friend that joined us after Thanksgiving and has given us so many smiles.  His favorite color is green, blue, and red, and he loves to play tag at recess.

Big Underwear Day!
This is one of Kindergarten's favorite days!  We LOVE reading, writing, drawing, sorting, and graphing our underwear.  Mostly, we loved wearing them on the outside!!!

Underwater Ponds
This week we studied the letter Uu and ponds.  We talked about pond animals and plants and insect life cycles and body parts.  To celebrate our studies, we made an Underwater Pond…..and then we ate it!

Pride Rally
This Friday, we had a Pride Rally.  We earned so many awards!  One of our friends earned a prize for perfect attendance (he chose a 5 pack of Hot Wheels cars!), our class won the Attendance Award and earned 5 extra minutes of recess, and we won the PE trophy for the best behavior in PE.

Star of the Week, 3D Shapes, Winter Weather and Cooking

Star of the Week
This week our Star of the Week is a girl who loves the colors pink and blue.  Her favorite movie is Despicable Me 2.  She wants to be a hair dresser when she grows up!

3D Solid Shapes
This week in math we discovered the difference between 2D shapes and 3D shapes. We sorted them, built them, made maps, and traveled around the building to find some real life 3D objects.

Sorting Shapes

Building Shapes

Making a Tree Map of Real Life Solids

Winter Weather
It's snowing in TEXAS!!!!!  So what would you do if it started snowing in Texas?  We'll, of course, you go outside and try to catch snowflakes on your tongue!!! We loved every minute of being outside with the snow falling. We tried to make a snowball, snowman, and a snow angel, but we quickly realized we needed more snow!

Kangaroo Pockets Cooking
This week we studied, wrote, and followed a recipe about the letter Kk. We researched kangaroos to find out why they have a pocket for their babies. Did you know that their babies won't fall out even if they are hopping!?!?  And we decided they look like little mice when they are first born! We then made Kangaroo pockets using pita bread and cheese.

Pride Rally
We LOVE Pride Rally!!!  At the beginning of Pride Rally we can dance and sing with the Spirit Squad. This is a picture of us living it up at Pride Rally. We also won 5 extra minutes of recess next week because we had the best attendance of all the kindergarten classes!  Yeah!!!! Maybe we can actually go out next week to enjoy those minutes!

Reminders:
Next week is a BIG week in Kindergarten!!  We will be celebrating the 100th day of school on Monday and Valentine's Day on Friday.  Please wear your 100th day of school project on Monday.  I sent a list of student names in your child's folder last week for Valentine's cards.  If you need an additional list, please let me know.
