More than and Less than

Christmas Around the World
This week we have been studying how Christmas and winter holidays are celebrated around the world.

In Mexico, the poinsettia is a traditional Christmas flower.  The legend says that a girl's mother became ill and she had nothing to give but some some weeds she found by the church.  When she brought them into the church, they turned from green weeds into red, beautiful flowers.

The tradition of the Christmas tree came from Germany where they decorate trees outside of the home.

An African American tradition of Kwanzaa, celebrates the harvest and family values.

In Israel, they celebrate Hanukkah.  It is a 9 day celebration.

In the Netherlands, the children leave carrots and hay in their shoes for Sinterklaas' horse.  Sinterklaas then leaves them goodies in return.   We decided the needed to see if we left our shoe out, if Sinterklaas would come….HE DID!!!!!
