Star of the Week, Octopus Stew, Habitat visit

Star of the Week
This week our Star of the Week is a friend that likes the color red and his favorite food is spaghetti.

Octopus Stew
This week we studied the letter Oo.  We used a recipe to make octopus stew. We LOVED eating octopus!  P.S.  It's not really octopus, it's just hot dogs!!!!!

Habitat Visit
It had been a while since we visited our habitat, so we decided to go check on our cabbage we planted and place the newest addition to the learning garden. When we arrived, we noticed that our cabbage are getting big! We decided that cabbage grow really well in winter while some plants in the garden looked very dead...some plants must not like the cold winter very much!

One of our students made a bird house with his dad and donated it to the habitat. We placed it in a high, safe tree for the birds to enjoy!

Subtraction, building words, and Santa's surprise!

This week was a busy week of learning! We spent all week building words, subtracting, and reviewing our letters.

Subtraction
This week we learned about subtraction. We read lots of books about subtraction including Benny's Pennies, 10 Little Ducks, and Who Took the Cookies from the Cookie Jar, and 10 Little Fish. Our Favorite was Benny's Pennies... We liked practicing how to spend money. We also realized how fast money is spent! Yikes!!!

Building Words
This week we became word builders. They coined the term "Word Architects!"  We practice building the word, sounding it out, Andy akingletters away to see what was left.

Santas's Surprise
Santa left us a surprise over the break. When we returned, these little Zebra Finch (both boys) were in our class!  We named them "Fluffy" and "Sharky."  Fluffy is the bigger one and Sharky is the smaller, louder, more active one.  We are learning to care for our pets, clean their cage, and feed them.  We have learned that they do not like loud noises and that they really like to build their nest. We have enjoyed listening to them sing and watching them bathe in their water!
