Whimsical Wands cooking, Presidents and Voting, Star of the Week, Math Tubs, Letter Writing

Star of the Week
I'm behind!!!! I'm so sorry!!

This student was Star of the Week last week. He is a special friend who loves to help others.  His favorite color is orange.

Our Star of the Week this week is a friend that loves to run fast at recess!

Whimsical Wands Cooking
This week we celebrated the letter Ww by making whimsical wands during our cooking lesson. We followed a recipe and then pretended we were magicians, princesses, and even the Tooth Fairy!

Presidents and Voting
This week we have been talking about presents, past and present, the president's job and responsibilities, and why voting is important.
Comparing George Washington and Abraham Lincoln and writing about what we would do if we were president.

Letter Writing
We have been learning about writing letters in Language Arts. Florence Hill now has an in-school postal system in which the Post Office Club collects and delivers mail to students. We can write letters to other teachers, friends, and brothers and sisters that are in other classes. So, if you see a letter from other student in another class, it was probably mailed using the Florence Hill Post Office!
(Dear Mrs Nieves thank you for loving me)

Math Tubs
Have you ever heard your child talk about math tubs?  Have you even wondered what Math Tubs are?
Math Tubs is a time we review different math concepts using games and activities. Each activities is in a tub that we rotate each day. This wee we are revising addition, 3D shapes, and counting to 100.

Star of the Week, 100th Day, Valentines' Day

Star of the Week
Our Star of the Week is a sweet girl who loves the color yellow and is constantly telling us new trivial information!  It's so fun to hear what random facts she has learned over the weekends!

100th Day of School
Monday was the 100th day of school!!  We have been eagerly anticipating this day of such a long time.   This we have celebrated the number 100 by changing our calendar to show 100 (this is HUGE for us….we finally have something in the 100's pocket of our place value chart :)  ), we count to 100 by 5's, 10's, and 1's.  We showed our 100th day wearable project we made at home, changed out faces to see what we would look like when we are 100, made a 100 circle caterpillar, write about what we would buy with $100, and wrote about what we wished we had 100 of.  We also made a snack with 100 pieces of food in it.  It was very yummy!

Valentine's Day!
Friday was Valentine's Day!  We spent the later part of the week talking about who was special to us, who we loved, and how to show someone that you care about them.  On Friday we exchanged Valentines cards and had a party at the end of the day.  We love spending some time showing our friends that we care about them.

Reminders/News:

**Did you see your child's Space Research book?  The kids went home on Friday with their space research book. They had such a great time learning about space and writing their own research book.  They are sooooo proud of themselves for becoming an author.  We even read our books to our third grade book buddies, and they were so proud of the kids, too!!!!

**Next Monday, February 17th, we will not have school.  Teachers will be having a staff development day.

**Save the Date--April 17, 2014--we have scheduled our Zoo Field Trip.  Parents are encouraged to attend.  More information, cost for parent to attend, and sign-up will be coming as the date draws closer.
